Dealing with the stresses of Divorce

By: Vipul / Category: Miscellaneous

Divorce is a messy process, one which is often in the news with celebrities splitting up and stories of settlements, custody fights and a lot of tears and upset. The reasons for it vary from couple to couple – family, money, work, changes in lifestyle can all be factors leading to the decision to separate.

If your in the process of separating its worth knowing what to expect, timescales and the possible outcomes. Starting off the process formally uses a form called ‘a petition for divorce’ or known as Form D8 – three copies are filled in for each of the parties involved and for the court too.

This then goes to the divorce county court or to the Principle Registry of the Family Division in London. You will need to provide grounds for divorce which could be adultery, unreasonable behavior, and desertion for a period of two years.

If you have appointed a solicitor they would advise you of the process and carry out the paperwork on your behalf. If you have children, need to help getting your share of assets and need legal advice then it’s best to appoint a Solicitor to work on your behalf. However many couples get divorced without one and the Citizens Advice Bureau can help you fill in the necessary forms. They can also help find you a solicitor whom can advice and represent you.
