Cosmetic vs. essential laser treatments

By: Vipul / Category: Miscellaneous

We all suffer from our vanities, which is why cosmetic surgery and treatment is so popular these days. However, there are some occasions when these kinds of treatments can make a huge difference not just to a person’s physical appearance, but their health, well-being and sense of self-confidence too.

Laser treatment is the perfect example of this. Some people use cosmetic laser treatments to improve their self-esteem, through the removal of unwanted body hair, scars, cellulite and acne. These treatments are a one-time way for people to permanently get rid of aspects of their physical appearance that they are self-conscious about, although it is an expensive way to do so.

Necessary treatments for health reasons

Rather than for purely cosmetic reasons, other people may need to undergo laser treatment or surgery in order to improve their health or quality of life. A prime example of this, and one of the most popular options these days, is laser eye treatment. These procedures can be used to permanently correct vision, so that there is no need to worry about wearing glasses or contact lenses.

There is a cosmetic reason why people undergo this treatment, but in general it makes life easier for people with vision problems.

The Benefits of Sunshine

By: Vipul / Category: Miscellaneous

Well summer is now officially over – although I’m not entirely sure when it actually started, as we have had the wettest July and August – it is quickly approaching the time of year when the clocks will go back and our hours of sunshine will quickly decrease. This year the clocks will go back on Sunday 31st October so it is vital that people get as much of the sunshine as they can during the day as sunshine releases Vitamin D. My advice is to ensure that you go for a walk over lunch time as opposed to going to a gym indoors. If this is not possible then ensure that you make the most of the outdoors over the weekend by going for walks or runs outside in the fresh air.

The Recommended Water Allowance

By: Vipul / Category: Miscellaneous

As I have recently decided that I needed to drink more water, I was intrigued to find out how much we are supposed to drink and how much is too much. I know that we need to keep well hydrated and that drinking plenty of water is good for us but my concern is how much is necessary and is it possible to drink too much? Most credible studies agree that we need approximately 8 glasses of water a day. Another survey suggested that we need 2.5 litres of water a day, this is slightly easier to measure as it is difficult to define ‘a glass’, so sticking to the recommended 2.5 litres should mean that you avoid drinking too much or too little.

The Ancient Properties of Green Tea

By: Vipul / Category: Miscellaneous

The latest craze for health fanatics across the world is Green Tea. However, this is not new at all, as the benefits of Green Tea have been used for hundreds of years. The humble English breakfast tea (a personal favourite of mine) is now being over shadowed by an array of herbal teas that are now available. The most popular alternative tea with ancient detoxing benefits is green tea. Green tea originated in China hundreds of years ago and is essentially packed with health and beauty benefits as it is full of antioxidants. The different substances contained in green tea have also been associated in helping people fight against cancer, low bone density, cognitive function and kidney stones, its might not taste great but all those benefits it is worth enduring.

The Many Benefits of Yoga

One of the best forms of exercise is the ancient practice of yoga. The form of yoga that I do at my gym is called body balance which is a combination of yoga, Thai chi and Pilates. The practice of yoga is a great way to relax, work muscles that don’t normally get a work out and allows the participant to practice breathing. Yoga has recently become the must-do sport for most celebrities such as Madonna. The health and spiritual benefits of yoga include improving overall flexibility as specific yoga positions work muscles, tendons and ligaments that are not normally used or stretched. Yoga also flushes out toxins from the body as the positions and stretches help to increase blood flow around the body.

Alcohol levels – know your limit as the winter season approaches

By: Vipul / Category: Healthy Living

As summer is now officially over, it will be winter in no time at all, and that means Christmas parties, winter markets and lots of alcohol and drinking. It is therefore vital that people become aware of the safe limits in order for them to remain healthy over the festive season. It is all too easy to drink over the recommended weekly allowance in just one Christmas night out. According to the Department of Health, it recommends that women should drink no more than two to three units of alcohol a day. A standard 175ml glass of red or white wine is around 2 units, whereas a large 250ml glass of red or white wine is around 3 units.
