A migraine is a severe pounding headache so intense and overwhelming that it can be debilitating to strength and energy. Through they can affect the entire head they usually begin on one side and is caused by abnormal dilation of the arteries of the scalp and the brain. The widening is preceded by partial closure of these arteries and as a result this causes temporary disturbances of brain function. While normal headaches are a persistent pain usually a dull ache in the head, migraines involve more localised throbbing pain often accompanied by nausea or vomiting and sometimes visual and neurological problems such as vision disturbances. Some of the causes from a Chinese herbal perspective is stress, severe physical tensions in the body and dietary imbalance. Some of the treatments include painkiller to temporarily relieve the pain or acupuncture.
