New research has shown that a fever may actually help the immune system to fight infection - ’sweating out’ a fever increases your baby’s discomfort and is definitely a fictitious tale. Lowering your child’s temperature will make him much more comfortable.
Sending a child to daycare/childminders who look after other children does mean they are likely to catch more colds as they are exposed to more germs. On the other hand research has also shown that children who attend daycare prior to starting primary school suffer from fewer colds later on as they have build up greater immunity to the common cold virus.
Antibiotics cannot cure a flue or cold.. They are drugs which kill bacterial illnesses such are sinusitis or ear infections whilst colds and flues are caused by viruses.
Many people also believed that vitamin C supplements, zinc lozenges etc can cure colds quicker although this is yet to be proved by scientific research. For overall health it is good to consume vitamin C and good sources of it include citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, papaya, berries, tomatoes, cauliflower, potatoes, green leafy vegetables and peppers.
