Lack of Fibre

By: Vipul / Category: Healthy Food

Only a fifth of us eat the recommended daily amount of fibre which is 24g a day, a high fibre diet can prevent constipation, and also reduce fatigue. Fibre is an essential part of the diet as it helps maintain a healthy digestive system, bulking out the stools so food waste and toxins can be cleared effectively. Fibre also helps to maintain your blood sugar levels and limits the amount of fat and cholesterol absorbed in your body.

It is also recommended that you vary the range of different fibre rich foods you consume, rather than simply eating the same few. Food sources rich in fibre include:

  • wholegrain cereal, breads
  • wholewheat pasta
  • brown rice
  • jacket potatoes
  • peas, beans, lentils, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
