Taking regular breaks is the way to stay healthy in an office

By: Vipul / Category: Healthy Living

Many office workers these days are glued to their computer screens from the moment they arrive first thing in the morning, right through until they leave at the end of the day, possibly with a break for lunch – which is usually eaten at the desk while staring at the computer.

Therefore, it is no wonder that the majority of these people, unless they do a decent amount of exercise before or after work, are unhealthy as their bodies are not using as much energy as their intake each day.

If you feel that you are one of these people, or at least admit you don’t get up out of your seat often enough, then the way to combat this is to ensure that you make time to take a break every now and again. It is actually a legal requirement to take frequent breaks from your screen so you mustn’t ever feel guilty in doing so.

Whether the respite is to go and speak to a colleague instead of emailing or phoning them from the next room, getting water from the cooler, or making use of the Flavia Vending Machines placed around the office, by grabbing yourself a coffee, tea or hot chocolate, the choice is up to you.

The Many Benefits of Yoga

By: Vipul / Category: Healthy Living

One of the best forms of exercise is the ancient practice of yoga. The form of yoga that I do at my gym is called body balance which is a combination of yoga, Thai chi and Pilates. The practice of yoga is a great way to relax, work muscles that don’t normally get a work out and allows the participant to practice breathing. Yoga has recently become the must-do sport for most celebrities such as Madonna. The health and spiritual benefits of yoga include improving overall flexibility as specific yoga positions work muscles, tendons and ligaments that are not normally used or stretched. Yoga also flushes out toxins from the body as the positions and stretches help to increase blood flow around the body.

By: Vipul / Category: Healthy Living

As summer is now officially over, it will be winter in no time at all, and that means Christmas parties, winter markets and lots of alcohol and drinking. It is therefore vital that people become aware of the safe limits in order for them to remain healthy over the festive season. It is all too easy to drink over the recommended weekly allowance in just one Christmas night out. According to the Department of Health, it recommends that women should drink no more than two to three units of alcohol a day. A standard 175ml glass of red or white wine is around 2 units, whereas a large 250ml glass of red or white wine is around 3 units.

By: Vipul / Category: Healthy Living

You can find various types of Fireplaces and these days they are being used as an attractive centre piece in homes.   The products they are made from vary and are available in stone, plaster, brick, marble and cast iron.

As well as this the type of surrounding you want for a fireplace there also different fireplaces based on fuel supply.  Electric fireplaces are convenient, reliable and easy to install.  All that’s need for this option is an electric suite is a power supply close by.

With today’s technology they even look like realistic fuel in appearance – with products on the market which use translucent materials and microchips they can drive the effect even more giving customers a wider option to choose from.

The other type is the traditional gas fireplace which has been specifically designed for a firebox within a chimney place/hold in the wall type solution.

In terms of health, electric and gas fires don’t have a high impact.  However the traditional log burning fireplaces which are commonly used in older models have been reported to have an impact on the environment and health of individuals.  In New Zealand this was found to be a contributor to poor air quality alongside that emitted by traffic and industrial waste.

Healthy Stomach & Intestines

By: Vipul / Category: Health FAQs, Healthy Living

Trapped wind is caused by too many gas bubbles building in your stomach and intestines which in result gives you a bloated and gassy feeling, it can also give you stomach cramps or pains, gurgling or rumbling in your stomach and the feeling of needing to burp but unable to. To avoid this it’s worth cutting down on rich foods and fizzy drinks, when you have your meals eat them slowly and make sure you chew your food to help it move easily through the intestines. This should help reduce flatulence. Additionally by taking simple sips rather than gulping when drinking can help with this too. Anti flatulence such as simethicone or dimethicone can help be used to breakdown small air bubbles to form larger ones that can expelled more easily from the body.
